Do you have experience of working as a welder and hold Thermic & Manual Metal Arc qualifications? If so, we would like to hear from you. 


We have an exciting opportunity for a Welder to work within London Underground's Track Delivery & Services department. Your role will be to undertake track welding duties, across the whole of the London Underground network on both maintenance & renewal works. This may include some week-end working. 

 


Key Accountabilities:

Prepare for welding asset: obtain authorisation and specifications, ensure all appropriate PPE is available and ensure equipment transported to the site safely
Undertake Thermic welding: correctly identify rail and site, assemble cutting equipment, cut the rail. Ensure that the rails are in line ready for welding, prepare equipment ready for welding and weld the rail. Remove welding equipment, profile grind the weld and refit fastenings and inspect weld
Weld repairs of crossing and Rail defects: identify cracks and grind out, ensure all cracks have been removed - MPI/DPI tests, pre-heat the rail and weld the rail. Profile grind the weld and inspect weld - MPI/DPI tests
Welding conductor rails: ensure equipment is correctly prepared and safe for use, cut rail and weld preps and weld the rail. Profile grind the weld
Restore work area: restore the asset to a safe condition, record results and clean down the site 
 

Skills, Knowledge and Experience: 


Skills:

Ability to communicate with people at all levels (Essential)
High levels of accuracy and attention to detail (Essential)
Ability to work in a safe manner (Essential) 

Knowledge:

Hold current LU Lucas Card or Sentinel card with LU Worksite Safety Induction certificate. (Essential)
Hold Protection licence – PWT-EH. (Desirable)
Hold Thermic Welding qualification – TW3, RT3 (Essential)
Hold Manual Metal Arc qualification - MMA 1-4 (Essential), MMA 7 (Essential) and MMA 5 (Desirable)
Possess a clean, full driving license as you may be required to drive Company vehicles on an ad-hoc basis. (Essential) 

Experience:

Proven experience of working in the track maintenance environment (Essential)
Proven experience of working as a welder in a track maintenance environment (Essential)
