London Underground is one of the world’s most famous metro systems and is responsible for more than 3.5 million passenger journeys a day. It has 11 lines covering 402km and serving 270 stations. During peak hours, more than 500 trains are in operation.
We have a great opportunity for a Plant Maintenance Fitter to install, maintain and repair plant equipment and facilities requirements.
Perform Statutory and Preventative Maintenance on relevant Plant and Equipment.
Diagnose faults on all types of either mechanical or electrical plant equipment.
Repair, recondition and service all types of either mechanical or electrical static and mobile plant and equipment within the workshops or outlaying sites on days or nights and pass as fit for purposes
Sign off certification for maintained / repaired equipment and complete al paper work and reports as required.
Manufacture replacement parts as required so that necessary repairs may be initiated.
Install new static plant and equipment in accordance with design specifications and contribute to design of installations with colleagues.
Use portable plant and power tools correctly.
Carry out gas cutting and welding.
Work safely at heights.
Work safely in confined spaces.
Use all measuring equipment, including portable appliance equipment.
Ensure that all activities and changes to equipment or process comply with all relevant safety and legal requirements.
Ensure that the planning of testing and trial activities includes the identification of appropriate risks and standards.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
All of the below are essential unless stated desirable
The ability to read, understand and comply with O & M manuals, engineering standards.
The ability to load and unload complex loads using overhead cranes.
The ability to carry out minor building repairs, E & M service repairs.
The ability to familiarise other employees in job and production requirements.
Ability to use correct PPP for range of activities.
The ability to carry out general housekeeping without direction.
The ability to comprehend London Underground practices on smoking, alcohol, drugs and attendance to duty and must comply with them.
The ability to communicate effectively with manager, other members of staff and customers.
Be physically fit and reach London Underground medical standards of fitness as appropriate to the job.
The ability to undertake Production duties as required.
Ability to work on track and achieve LU-Individual Working Alone (LU-IWA) certification
Ability to carry out switching
Ability to read electrical schematic drawings
Ability to work at heights
Knowledge & Experience
Must have served an appropriate engineering Apprenticeship or equivalent experience and be able to work from manufacturers specifications or drawings.
Possess relevant track certification.
Have certification to isolate and/or work on electrical equipment
to the job and ability to execute them.
Possess a through knowledge and understanding of rules and regulations relating to the job and ability to execute them.
Knowledge of motor control
Understanding of Programmable Logic Controllers PLC’s (Desirable)
Understanding of hydraulic systems (Desirable)
