Do you love working with customers and helping them to get the most out of a service you offer, and get a sense of satisfaction when you are able to answer a complex query so that the customer walks away with a positive experience? Could you enthuse people from 0-99 about books and reading? Would you be able to help users with a computer, perhaps for looking for a job, applying for social housing, reporting a problem to the Council, or setting up an email address? Would you also like the challenge of promoting the service you offer to more people, from a range of diverse communities?

You will be carrying out tasks to help users get the most out of the Libraries, e.g. helping them find specific titles and reserving them, adding them as new members, signposting them to websites for information, booking them on to IT support sessions or author events; as well as preparing and delivering story time and singing sessions for babies and toddlers, and encouraging children to join reading activities. You will also undertake tasks to ensure the smooth running of the libraries, e.g. processing new stock using our Library computer system, dealing with email and phone enquiries, cashing up and associated processes, unpacking and sorting items arriving in crates from around the City, and liaising with contractors arriving on site for maintenance and repairs. Manual handling, Display Screen Equipment, and other training will be given to ensure tasks are carried out safely. These posts are subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service enhanced disclosure check.
