Reporting Directly into the Production Manager and sitting on the Joinery Workshop Manager will be responsible for organising and managing a workshop team of circa 30 staff in the production of bespoke joinery. 

As a member of the production team, the Joinery workshop Manager’s role involves:
Making the best use of resources, time and capital to ensure effective, efficient and economic productivity levels;
Working with the workshop management team, senior managers and Health and Safety Advisor to design and maintain safe systems of work;
Have a full knowledge and understanding of all aspects of joinery manufacture and production.
A working knowledge of all aspects of workshop equipment, tools, machines, safety equipment and PPE.
Support the Production Manager in manufacture and delivery of manufactured goods to the required time and quality using safe practices.
The ability to modify workshop throughput to suit unexpected joinery orders;
Management of the department’s budget as directed by the Production Manager.
Preparation of reports and analysis of programmes as required by the Production Manager;
A working knowledge of workshop health & safety requirements, promote the safe well being of all staff and visitors into the workshop environment.
Ordering materials through buyer to ensure delivery schedules are met;
To support and be familiar with own role and responsibility in respect of Business Continuity Planning. Ensuring that team members are also aware of the plans and communicates same.
Have input into weekly production programme and highlight any resource issues.
Highlight any foreseeable slack periods or areas where over-committed.
Have expert knowledge of joinery production and continuously seeks improvement through new technology and Lean Construction.
Must demonstrate ability to deal with Change requests and short lead periods, without jeopardising contracts.
Be able to directly Manage departmental Foremen and Team Leaders to ensure Health and safety, Quality and Environmental KPI’s and legistlatory requirements are adhered to.
Be confident and experienced in dealing with disciplinary matters, attendance issues and production staff matters arising.
Be enthusiastic and experienced in training and nurturing apprentices / trainees and work experience placements and identify less experienced production staff and recognise their capability and assist in upskilling and developing them.
In the temporary absence of the Production Manager take control of the Manufacturing Facility as directed.
Identify new Lean Construction techniques and cost saving methods of working.
Review, critique, modify and adapt working drawings prepared by the CAD / Setting Out Department to ensure mistakes and remakes are eliminated.

Will hold an NVQ Level 3 qualification as a minimum;
Will ideally hold a management qualification or have received management training;
Competent user of Microsoft packages such as Excel, Word and Microsoft Project;
Should also have a recognised Health and Safety qualification such as IOSH, CSCS (Black) or SMSTS;
Must be competent in assessing risk.
The role requires an in depth understanding of joinery fabrication and is ideally suited to someone who has worked in a joinery facility as a tradesperson and has progressed to a management position. 
The candidate should also have a good knowledge of setting out, and should have at least 3 years in a similar role.
Dealing with many bespoke and small batch runs of joinery the applicant must have specialist knowledge in joinery fabrication inclusive of curved work, veneering, lacquer finishes, lean construction, environmental experience including Chain of Custody for FSC and PEFC. 
The role requires an excellent understanding of health and safety in the workplace, work closely with the Health and Safety Advisor and the Senior Management Team to not only maintain the safe systems of work, but also improve on current practices.
The applicant must be organised, level headed under pressure, be adaptable to changes in programme and workload, work collaboratively with the workshop team and the Senior Management Board. 
The candidate must demonstrate sound leadership skills.
