The Discipline Infrastructure Maintenance Engineer - Rail for London is responsible for safety of line inspections, asset monitoring, maintenance, like for like renewal and enhancement prioritisation, asset stewardship and life / performance optimisation. This will include asset stewardship design, infrastructure inspection, asset data management, intelligent / risk based prioritisation.

As the Fire Infrastructure Maintenance Engineer RfLI (FIME) you will be the technical maintenance specialist ensuring safety and reliability for Fire systems on the Elizabeth Line. You will also assist the Infrastructure Maintenance Engineer  (IME), to ensure delivery of the Maintenance Plan. Providing Fire systems stewardship and asset life performance & optimisation. 


Key Accountabilities

Support the IME in leading the overall safety of line and safety critical asset / systems inspection, compliance, work prioritisation and quality, strategy and tactical deployment requirements. This includes completion of assurance checks, quality checks and audits.

Support the IME in managing a 5 year asset investment budget. Establish and lead the strategic asset intervention regime and the management of maintenance engineering stewardship to enable the defined Elizabeth Line standards, processes, procedures and performance to be delivered.

Ensure that the operational requirements align with the maintenance engineering asset management requirements and deliver a compliant, safe, operable and maintainable railway including the undertaking of on-call duties.

Support Crossrail Ltd and other 3rd parties in delivering  the Elizabeth line into operational service. Assessing requirements for asset whole life, Reliability Availability Maintainability (RAM) and Remote Condition monitoring

Approvals for fire detection substitutions, isolations and permitting.

Oversee fire maintenance through technical audits to ensure requirements are delivered

As the fire responsible person ensure compliance to applicable fire standards and operational requirements are met

Development of Fire system related processes and procedures to deliver a safe, operable and reliable railway.

Assures the right level of compliance and quality is achieved in the fire and associated systems maintenance and renewal works.

Maintenance task reviews and installation acceptance.


Expert knowledge in Fire systems including detection, suppression, firefighting equipment, compartmentation and associated smoke control systems, substantial knowledge in standards and their application

Substantial knowledge of M&E systems, the maintenance methods and associated legislation and standards

Knowledge of railway systems and related engineering disciplines (Civil, Track, OHLE, S&T engineering).



Team leader experience with leadership skills to motivate professionals from multiple disciplines.

Excellent communication skills with proven negotiation and influencing skills explicitly with external contractors

Excellent decision-making and analytical skills

Established risk management skills.

Ability to formulate and articulate clear visions for the planning and delivery of initiatives and programmes

Ability to develop projects


Substantial experience as a Fire Engineer, Building Services or Fire Maintenance Manager

Good experience of Asset Management and maintenance delivery and auditing and use of associated maintenance systems

5+ years of managing a technical teams and contractors

Working knowledge of subsurface railway regulations and its application in underground environments.
