Salary: £39,000-£40,000 dependant on skills, knowledge and experience
Location: Victoria Station House

Job Purpose
Provides technical analysis and diagnoses within an organisation unit to assist in the production of designs, drawings, information, calculations and ongoing improvement of transport system operational performance, using defined procedures under limited supervision

Key Accountabilities
• Ensures the safety, functionality or compliance of discrete, newly implemented or altered assets, engineering processes, procedures or systems
• Assists in the development and implementation of discrete engineering solutions within their stated discipline or functional specialism, through the supervised application of defined engineering standards and governance
• Undertakes technical analysis, diagnosis and monitoring to support design, test, build, commissioning or ongoing performance, safety and reliability improvement of the transport system
• Undertakes risk-based monitoring and surveillance of site works as required, resolving and or escalating risks and issues as appropriate
• Maintains working knowledge of applicable standards, design codes and legislation applicable to their discipline or functional specialism
• Evaluates, selects and applies appropriate solutions to well discrete, well defined engineering problems that improve efficiency or effectiveness, while improving safety and reducing operating costs.
• Supports continuous improvement through the use of best practice, innovation, whole life cost optimisation and effective root cause analysis

Financial Impact
The job holder has limited indirect influence over the deployment of multi-million pound expenditure on major programmes, projects or interventions that may affect the safety, reliability and performance of the transport network and hence a major contribution to the delivery of services to customers.

Key Interfaces
• Principal Engineers/Senior Engineers/Engineers - Providing engineering services as part of an engineering team.
• Senior Engineering Leader - Escalation of Technical issues requiring their authority or for further escalation to Head of Profession.
• Suppliers - Working with engineering consultancies on the delivery of contracted services
• Providing support to TfL Operational Units to improve the reliability, availability and performance of the Transport Network

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Skills:
• Health, Safety & Environment – Aware
• Whole Life Asset Management – Aware
• Quality Management – Aware
• Legislation & Standards – Supervised Practitioner
• Domain Knowledge – Supervised Practitioner
Knowledge:
• Possesses a minimum of a Higher National Diploma or equivalent in a relevant subject
• Certified to EngTech level or working towards
• Good Understanding of Bentley Microstation and ProjectWise
• Knowledge of 2D & 3D CAD application
• Awareness of risks associated with their work and the potential impacts on colleagues and the transport system
• Awareness of the TfL Vision, Mayoral Transport Strategy, Business priorities and financial constraints
• Awareness of the interfaces and inter-dependencies between own discipline and the wider transport system
Experience:
• Experience of producing technical documentation or reports
• Experience in one or more of the following areas: conception, specification, design, construction, testing, commissioning, bringing into use, operational support and or disposal of assets, systems or changes to engineering practice
• Experience of managing small multi-disciplinary engineering teams or applying engineering principles to resolve low complexity technical challenges
• Experience of applying engineering procedures to support low risk / complexity projects or operational activities
Experience of building relationships with the organisation
