Job Purpose To carry out recycling activities, operations and processes on the site safely, efficiently and in compliance with the RL standards and Safe Systems of Work (SSW).
To cooperate and works as a team with all other site personnel, endeavouring to ensure that the site operates safely and efficiently.
Note – the Crane Operator role will for the majority of their time be oerating the crane, however recycling activities includes, depollution of ELV vehicles, purchase and processing of Non-ferrous materials, FLT operation, cat removal, general yard operations, Raw2K operations, etc.
Key Accountabilities • Safety
Only undertake operations which you have been adequately trained, instructed and signed off to undertake.
Ensure the correct PPE is worn for any operation being undertaken
Report any safety concerns and potential risks in a timely manner to your supervisor or the site manager.
Never knowingly endanger yourself or any other person/s on site.
Maintain the site/work station in a clean, tidy and safe condition.
• Plant & Equipment
Only operate equipment once adequately trained in the appropriate safe system of work and signed of by an authorised person.
Check daily check sheets are completed for all equipment at the start of the day
To carry out routine maintenance and cleaning activities on the crane and other equipment
Ensure that any damage or faults or reported promptly to your supervisor or the site manager
• Recycling Activities
To perform designated activities according to the agreed standards and the best of your abilities.
Any other ad hoc duties relative to the level and nature of the role.
Provide cover for other roles on site as required, if approved and authorised to do so.
Communication and Working Relationship External:
External Drivers – to liaise with external drivers to agree the safe and effective loading of their vehicles, ensuring the driver is kept safe during the process.
Export/Tyres – work collaboratively to ensure the site operates efficiently, expecting the same standards and behaviours as a RL employee
• Site Manager and/or Supervisor– daily communications to set priorities, agree workload, deal with queries/concerns, report issues, provide progress updates, etc
• Site Colleagues – regular informal communication to ensure site runs in a safe and efficient manner, in accordance with the SSW and values.
• Company Drivers – directing drivers within the yard and agreeing safe loading/unloading processes
Dimensions and Decision Making • Able to take all standard decisions in line with relevant procedures and guidelines, and other decision to be referred to the site supervisor and/or manager.

Productivity Removal of engines and baling of cars.
Weekly stock position
Weighbridge – gross all wagons at 44t
Cost Control Damage to plant / kit
Damage to site / concrete
Any damage caused to equipment or plant through improper use.
Damage to site infrastructure
Growth Ideas to improve
Contribute at least one new idea to improve each year.
Full use of the ticketing system and not taking anything from site without an approved ticket.
Demonstrating commitment and flexibility to work in other roles as needed.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Qualifications required to fulfil the role Crane licence or pass off approval – essential
Up to date log book – desired.
Specific work experience required to fulfil the role • Previous experience within the Recycling sector – desired
• Previous experience operating a grab crane or similar mechanical plant - essential
• Well organised and structured approach to work - essential
• Able to understand and followed safe systems of work and structured processes
• Able to clearly communicate and follow instruction
