The work you will undertake will increase the resilience of Council services, ensuring as far as possible, the services relied on by our citizens, businesses, and visitors; continue to operate through unplanned events, and disruptive challenges. Your work will contribute to the resilience of City life as a whole.

In addition you will lead the development and promotion of business continuity advice to the local community, particularly small and medium sized enterprises.

You will be:

Conducting Business Impact Analyses
Maintaining a business continuity risk register, and ensuring it is reflected in the Council’s risk management process
Supporting service level plan writing, and writing corporate plans
Testing plans
Training staff, and ensuring corporate-wide awareness of relevant plans
Embedding the business continuity lifecycle within Council governance processes
Developing ways, and possibly introducing technology, to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of continuity planning
Your work will be varied and with a broad range of services and contractors. You will need to be able to undertake it effectively and collaboratively; with a wide range of officers, across management and operational grades, and with colleagues from partner organisations.

You will report to the Civil Protection Manager, and become part of the small but dedicated Civil Protection team; and join the out of hours Civil Protection duty rota, working with emergency service colleagues, and facilitating the Council’s response to incidents across the City. Therefore you will be a team player, but self motivated with the confidence to work on your own initiative.

You will also have excellent oral and written communication skills, coupled with a flexible, ‘can do’ approach. Experience in business continuity management, as well as understanding of the statutory emergency duties placed on local authorities, is essential. Knowledge of local authority functions, although not a prerequisite, would be of desirable.
