SUMMARY OF ROLE
The post holder will work within the finishing shop. They will be part of a team finishing high quality joinery for retail, commercial, hotel/leisure & marine sectors. They will be trained to become adept at working various finishing products on a number of different core materials.
Full training – on the job and at College will be provided to enable the Apprentice to become competent in:
Accurately setting up of spray guns & mixtures of products.
Study drawings, work orders or samples to determine specifications.
Selecting correct finishing products.
Adjust parts to maintain conformity of work within specifications.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
The Apprentice will report to the Finishing foreman or in his absence the production foreman.
Will be expected to work both within a team and on own initiative.
Read and carry out work from drawings and specifications.
Carry out all work in accordance with safe working practices as set out in Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
Carry out work in workshop/building having regard for Health and Safety issues and for the building occupiers working environment
The Apprentice will be expected to understand and be familiar with relevant safety legislation.
To fill out timesheets accurately and on a regular basis – as directed.
To work in a flexible manner and carry out duties, provide cover or assistance to other members of the workshop team as may be required by the Finishing shop Foreman / Production Foreman and/or Senior Management Board.
To act professional at all times as a representative of the production team.
Desire to be a Finisher and understand what the job entails
Ability to read 2D and 3D drawings
Focus on quality manufacturing
Competent to work on own initiative
Work closely in a tight knit team
Take direction from senior members of the team /mentor as directed
Work to tight deadlines
Pro-active in improving systems of work and fabrication techniques
Be punctual and presentable at all times, whether in the workshop or at college
Be flexible in their working times to suit business needs – overtime hours will be paid for additional hours worked
QUALIFICATIONS & SPECIALIST TRAINING
Demonstrate a desire to work towards the successful completion of an approved craft apprenticeship in Finishing and attain NVQ Level 3 (preferred) – a day away from the workshop will be provided to attend college – this may also involve evening classes and homework
A GCSE in Woodwork / Technology / Art / Design
Reference from school (relevant subject), previous employer or work experience
Demonstrate desire for specialist training in the use of new products

We are looking for an Apprentice Polisher/Decorator to work from our factory in Christchurch. This role is offered on a fixed term basis. In return we are offering a competitive training salary, plus 22 days annual leave and access to a pension scheme.
